i cant help but feel guilty seeing how dead this site looks.
Did or does anybody use the esp curve shank hooks.
I didnt try them till the end of my tenching this year so i cant say i have caught a lot of fish on them , but from the results i did get they do seem very promising.

Few Questions

I'm thinking of targeting tench properly next season, so I have a couple of questions. I won't be casting too far and I'll be using weights up to 2oz, would a standard 1.75lb tc barbel rod be ok? What strength mainline and hooklength should I use? Thanks

Raking - How quickly?

After you've raked a swim, how quickly can you expect to find tench (assuming there's a reasonable enough population) in that area investigating what's been kicked up or fed in??

Are we talking immediately, hours, a day, days.....what??

I've seen tench activity in a certain swim but it's almost unfishable but some kindly fellow tenchers made me some rakes but I'm not sure whether to rake a known patrol area and then bang a bait in right away or rake...

After taking some advice from a couple of people on here and reading back through the achives, I applied to join the tenchfishers club earlier this week but I haven't heard anything back as a confirmation of my application. How long does the application process normally take?

My father, who is a fly fisherman, has recently expressed an interest in doing some tenching, i have explained that it is late but with this warm spell in the area it could be worth a try within the next week.
problem is he is a member of no angling associations so it will have to be a day ticket water.
Any suggestions, he is a bit of a purist so he will want to float fish somewhere with lots of lily pads and rushes, if there is somewhere you can hire a punt he would just love...

I'm planning on fishing for Tench on a venue in a couple of weeks and I'm thinking of pre-baiting a couple of swims but this is something that I have never done before due to being a match angler and never really fished for big fish. The venue I'm targeting is not heavily fished with the exception of a couple of pegs, one of which is one I plan to fish early morning.

Would you prebait for a week or so with hemp and a few grains of corn or is it worth feeding pellets?...

Weed Rigs

Can anyone recomend a rig to use over a weedish bottom. Its not overly bad but i am every 3 or casts bringing in a load of weed (and a couple HUGE swan mussels). I was thinking maybe helicopter or chod ? Also i haven't been doing too well this week with only a single tench the first session and a decent roach the second. I've been using pellet/corn/meat. Can anyone suggest any change baits, thinking of giving worms a try.

Hi all,

After 15 or so years of match fishing and a gap of 5 years not fishing, I have decided to retire the match fishing kit and I'm thinking about going specimen fishing but I don't know where to start.

The waters that I'm planning on fishing at Rackerhayes in Newton Abbot. They are clay pit waters with big Tench and Bream.

Can anybody help in regards of kit, bait and any advice in general. On my...

i remember last year and a couple weeks ago in the AT about using liquidized corn for carp fishing. I was wondering if i cupped some in using a pole, would this method work for tench? or are tench more bottom feeders, and would the cloud hinder my fishing by sending them through all depths ?
i was also thinking of using the liquid corn for mixing my groundbait with when openend feeder fishing
any ideas and thoughts would be much appreciated

Well lads the stuff I made was indistinguishable by any of my mates. Only one knew it wasn't right because the colour was darker.

1:Get a pan of water on the stove and add sugar until you have a thin syrup. Bear in mind it will thicken slightly when it cools so you just want a noticeable viscosity OK.

I had a brief chat with the bro in law whos a quite decent chap.
And the topic of fishing was widely discussed and the lack of good tench waters in the area where we live, me in bury and shaun in oldham....
and we both came to the conclusion that if it was not for the motorways of the UK then most of the gravel pits down south would not exist and all the records that go with it.

Up here in the north west everything is all silt bottomed and with the amount of freebies...
