I have just bought myself a small spod and a 3lb test curve rod so thought I would have a go at whacking out some bait, call me stupid but an awful lot seems
to fall out when the spod turns over in mid air. It seemed like a lot and made me question what I was doing as I seemed to be spreading bait around. Opinions?

What spod are you using? Some models work better than others. Also, it may pay not too overfill it!

Hi Mate,
The best way to avoid spill is to plug the filled spod with a small nugget of ground bait. it works every time. The best spod I've found is the Korda skyliner. Gaz. |

gardners rocket ( not the mini one) really flys!
Fill 3/4 full even weight distribution of bait and if that fails plug with damp pellet or groundbait ( or pva nugget ) failing that, stick a third rod on the spod spill Tom |

It's a Korda mini Skyliner, it moves throiugh the air well and I can get some decent distance on it. It didn't seem to matter how hard a cast it, as
bait fell out every time, I'll try plugging it with groundbait next time but I guess I have to leave it in the water a tad longer for the plug to go?

I just looked at a Korda Mini Skyliner. I must say that I'm not surprised you are loosing the contents. I use the MCF Swordfish without holes in it. I have
very few problems with it though I do occasionally will loose a load in flight, as you will with most modals. If I'm banging out a gallon or more of feed
however, the Swordfish allows me to do so without my arms falling off and on target virtually every time. The secret is in aiming to cast beyond the market and
letting the line-clip do its job. The link below should put you in the picture.

Do you think the extra holes causes it to push more of the bait out? I might try and pick up a different one tomorrow. I also found that even when placed in
loose at the bottom a lot of feed wouldn't come out and I think this is because of some getting caught in the holes and blocking the rest. I'll try and
get hold of one of the small holess gardner ones as I know they are in the shop.

Why do you want to use a small spod? The smaller they are the less feed they will carry and the easier they will be blown off course. You can use a standard
sized spod with less feed in it if you want and a even add a little water to give it extra weight for casting.

I'm not fishing at massive range 40 - 60 yards, but the rods I use are too light for hitting out decent sized PVA bags. So I was told to get a small spod
and a 3lb tc rod and use that. By the way it was throwing out the spod though I think I could probably use a medium spod

A medium sized spod on a 3lb tc rod should easily hit 70 yards every time. You would struggle to to that with a mini spod though.

I've recently purchased a spod that comes with different bodies.
I have one with no holes which is great for loose feed i.e. hemp, sweetcorn, pellets etc Then i have a seperate sleave that i can change with holes which i can use for ground bait and semi hard The bigger the spod the better......more feed I also use a groundbait plug when using loose feed. |
