Posts: 35 (22/05/09 06:26:30) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None The water I'm fishing has been very hard, very hard indeed, much harder than last year and I just found out that one of the regulars has quit because its not worth fishing in his opinion. Because I have a bee in my bonnet about cracking this place, even if its just for one session I shall keep plugging away, everyone I know who's fishing it is struggling. So I have planned a trip out early Sunday morning, get up about three and be there before its light and with the weather looking good fingers crossed. I was thinking of getting over there Saturday night with a bucket of bait, catapult and spod rod and putting some bait into my chosen spots, anything to make a difference! So I was wondering if any of you has any thoughts on this, type of bait, amount, anything in fact. Not sure whether I'll fish the place again after this June so would like at least one good result. Posts: 745 (22/05/09 07:06:48) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Its not unusual for a lake to "switch off " for a year or so, about 3 years ago a couple of us targeted a lake which had a rep for lots of Tench and Bream to a reasonable size but during that spring we never caught or saw a fish caught, with an angler in every swim chucking in loads of bait every weekend you could put it down to pressure but nothing came out in the week either, last year however it suddenly did a 12lber and this year it would appear that 8's and 9's are coming out frequently but only in very tight areas - only two out of 40 swims in 20 acres are catching. In answer to your question, if they are going to switch on I would think this weekend could be the one, everywhere seems to be hard, reports from Kent to the Cotswolds would suggest that they are not very spread out and if your not on them, trying to persuade them to feed in a certain area isn't really working. By all means, feed the night before you fish but personally wouldn't go in with bucket loads if they aren't that interested.

Maybe the extra interest from the carp boys this year is making the difference. Alanne Ps. Pre baited two areas Saturday night, took a spod rod, a marker rod and the fishing rods, found my spots with the marker rod, spodded bait over each area and then cast both rods to each area, clipped up and marked the point with pole elastic ready for the early start. Got up at 3am and was fishing before first light thinking the tench may be feeding early in the day, they were, every carp angler on the 4 acre lake caught tench up to 9lb all on boilies, I using clasical tench baits, hemp, maggot, corn etc didnt get a single touch! I'm now just about positive that the extra attension from the carp boys this year with all the extra bait has got the tench preocupied on boilies, the guys just put a few freebies in by catapult or pva bag and they are in, even single hook baits are out fishing the tench anglers and so I have decided to to fish all my rods with carp style techniques Have any of you experienced this "boilie" thing before and what carp type baits would you use to catch tench? There are one or two tench getting caught by carp anglers at night or very early AM, so having blanked the last four day trips i'm having to reluctantly resort to an overnighter to see if i can get onto some fish. Really frustrating as this pit is usually a dead cert for three or four fish in a session either in the morning or early evening. Wurzel

What everyone needs to do is cut right back on the freebies so the fish have to actively hunt for the food. That is what happens on a lot of lakes, it makes the headlines then everybody wants to fish it and everybody piles in the bait , there are a limited amount of fish that can only eat so much and any excess bait rots and sickens the water. !st year great. 2nd year bait is piled in ,catches not so good. 3rd year LOTS of bait piled in, catches very limited so every body leaves saying the water is crap. 4th year empty swims week after week so lake has a chance to heal itself and someone has a great catch puts it in the paper and the cycle starts all over again....................................................KEEP A WATER JUST ON THE HUNGRY SIDE AND CATCHES WILL BE GOOD YEAR AFTER YEAR............................................
