After 19 1/2 hours on Hardwick with Paul Hawkins and his cracking fis of 8lb 0oz and and 5lb plus and a 6lb plus which brought
Martin Bowler into the swim for a look and an hour long chat. What a lovely guy he is, genuinely interested in our opinions on his Catching The Impossible.
I had a 5lb 3oz female just before dark, but was uneasy about my choice of swim, I had made the classic mistake of dropping in next to a mate instead of
looking around the complex. This mistake kept me awake that night, cursing myself. 5am in the morning, without distubing Paul, I packed up everything and moved
my gear to the East end of Hardwick where I could start to select a swim. The rest of Hardwick did not look too promising a nice little bay on Smiths Pool
which I would have to myself was chosen and back to hump all the gear 1/4 mile. Then a result with the bailiff turning up early and opening the gates so I
could load the van and drive the gear around. Very helpful bailiff suggested I have a look across the road at Manor Farm. I did as he suggested as it would
give me an oppurtunity to look 2 more waters. But these were busy, I still wandered around for 2 hours before seeing a couple of fish roll and saw they were on
a bar in St Johns. The only swim you could fish this area from was being vacated. Dropped the leading rod in to reserve the swim I saw some notice boards
reserving the swim from 7pm. No problem that was right in my plans. Leaded around and found the extent of the clean bar.
A small male straight away on red maggot feeder gave me heart, then lost a carp under a bush. Then the fish went ballistic in the morning 4.10 male, 6.4 pb
male, 6.6, 7.9 pb male, in the afternoon 6.14 male, 7.3, 6.7, 6.2, followed by a 23 1/2" 8lb 0oz pb male which Paul came around to photo.

What a fish. It did not end there 7.4, 4 male, 6.12 female. Thirteen fish my best ever session in terms of numbers and quality and there are a lot bigger fish
to be had in there. Can't wait to return to the complex.
