Hi,
I know this is going to sound really patronising but its not ment to. To my mind the only answer is to fish a water where there arn't a load of small carp. yes I know its kind of obvious but the better tench waters tend to be ones that (as far as carp are concerned)only have a population of old established carp or no carp at all, waters stocked with orrible F1 and 2 carp are almost impossible to get through so do your self a favour and find a nice tenchy water! |

Hi Jammit
Gotta say that I think Moto is right, but it's so hard nowadays finding a place that isn't stuffed with those horrible little overgrown livebaits, and frankly, after 3 days on the bank you need a change from eating carp. Seriously A good friend of mine is fishing a lake with a lot of BIG carp in it. He has stopped using groundbait and just spods out loose maggies, hemp etc. He told me that if I were to use my normal groundbait with the feed in the groundbait, I'd spend all day being smashed by 40lb carp. He had a lot of tench last year including 3 doubles. I think that's right - he isn't on this site cos he's an illiterate Luddite! In the future there may be an answer.... and here it is: www.charliecarp.com/home.htm copy and paste into your browser. The future is bright...the future is sorta brownish. Drew |

Hi jammitt,
not sure if this will help or not but I have found that on gravel pits if you fish the really clear gravel spots you will get more carp interuptions but if you bait up both the clear gravel area and the adjacent weedy area ( idealy immediately to the near side of clear patch) and then fish 1 -2 feet into the weed you will take tench more than carp. Sure there are probably a number of debateable reasons why but its been working for me - just rememebr you need to set up with a rig which is still effective in light weed ( tip: a rake can make heavy weed lighter !!) Oh dreaming of spring!!! Frank
Don't live to work,,,,,,,, fish! |
